The National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia/NCOA/ was founded by the outstanding violinist Zareh Sahakiants in 1962 and in 2012 the orchestra celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The role of its first director, Armenian Honoured Art worker Zareh Sahakiants is inestimable in accomplishment and rapid development of the orchestra. Enthusiastic welcome of the audience not only in Armenia but also in USSR countries and in foreign concert halls, clear definition repertory as well as the formation of unique art of high taste of the orchestra are directly connected with his name and personality. Created stable traditions were developed and enriched by the directors or the orchestra next stages which are Armenian Art Honoured workers Konstandin Baghdasaryan(since 1975), People’s artist of Armenia Ruben Aharonyan (since 1982) and Armenian Art honoured worker Aram Gharabekian (since 1997).
The path of the orchestra is nowadays represented as valuable investment of talented collective, in spreading and introducing word of chamber culture in Armenia. The NCOA has appeared on tour with remarkable praise in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Switzerland, Greece, Russia, Georgia, Cyprus, Lebanon, and United Arab Emirates. The NCOA has performances in the Canterbury Festival in England, the Halle Festival in Germany, the Dimitria Festival in Greece. Guest conductors and the best Armenia and foreign soloists performed with this orchestra. The NCOA has a wide repertoire of Armenian, European and Russian composers. From 2011 Vahan Mardirossian is the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the NCOA.
